All D1 hockey boards are made with a heavy duty aluminum frame and have the same dasher material you would find in a regulation ice rink featuring a BLUE caprail, WHITE dasher face and YELLOW kickplate.

Multiple Installation Options

There are several methods for installing the D1 hockey rink boards.  You may mount them directly to any wall or flat surface.  You may also choose from our permanent or portable board supports depending on the particulars of your hockey rink project.

Preparation

Your rink setup will be much easier with the help of another 1-2 person(s).

Depending on your rink size, your D1 rink will arrive on one or more pallets. Remove the packaging and take inventory. When your order arrives, we encourage you to unwrap the packaging and inspect the order to confirm there has been no damage during transit.

THE COMPONENTS OF YOUR D1 RINK WILL INCLUDE:

Hockey Boards: All D1 Hockey Boards come fully assembled with a BLUE Caprail, WHITE Dasher Face and YELLOW Kickplate.

Bolts & Nuts: These fasteners connect the Boards to each one another, along with respective Board Support(s) as described below.

THE HOCKEY BOARDS MAY BE ANCHORED USING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING METHODS:

Mounted: The Hockey Boards may be mounted directly to any flat surface (wall, beam, post, etc.). This anchoring option is used mainly for indoor installations where the Hockey Boards are intended to “butt up” against walls.

The Boards are 3″ deep and we recommend gold construction screws at least 5″ in length:

  • 3″ for the depth of the Board; and
  • 2″ to “bite” into the material you are fastening to
  • 1 fastener near each of the 4 corners of the Board works great!

Staked: The Hockey Boards may be staked into the ground using the D1 Kickers. The D1 Kickers bolt to the top of the Hockey Boards and come down to the ground at a 45-degree angle resting 24″ away from the backside of the Hockey Boards.

We recommend at least 18″ long x 3/8″ diameter stakes.

Weight: When mounting or anchoring is not an option, the Hockey Boards may be weighed down by adding the D1 Base Kicker. The D1 Base Kicker attaches to the bottom of the Hockey Board and connects with the D1 Kicker up to 24″ away from the backside of the Hockey Board. This is the most common option for installations when penetrating the sub surface is not an option.

We recommend at least 50 lbs for each Tall Board and 25 lbs for each Short Board.

Lagged: The Hockey Boards may be secured with the D1 Anchor Plate (4” x 6”). The D1 Anchor Plate has 2 holes 3/8” diameter and sits 12″ behind the Hockey Boards.

We recommend lagging at least 2” into any hard flat surface, but no more than ½” from the bottom of the depth of the sub surface. This option is used for permanent installations.

Please Note:

D1 is available to answer any questions you may have during your installation.  Please call us at 855-355-3131 or email sales@d1backyardrinks.com

What are the dimensions of the D1 Hockey Rink Boards?

We hand make the following Hockey Rink Boards full assembled featuring a BLUE Caprail, WHITE Dasher Face and YELLOW Kickplate:

  • Tall Straight – 42″ tall x 48″ wide
  • Tall Gate – 42″ tall x 48″ wide with a 30″ door centered on the unit.  There is an 8″ threshold.
  • Tall Corner – 42″ tall with a 43 degree radius
  • Short Straight24″ tall x 48″ wide
  • Short Corner – 24″ tall with a 43 degree radius

In addition to our standard set of Boards, we also make custom boards at no charge.  This may include Straight Boards to help with certain rink measurements or Equipment Gates.

What are the boards made from?

D1 Hockey Boards utilize a 2″ heavy aluminum frame with a proprietary profile that reinforces strength and rigidity.

The D1 Hockey Rink Boards are fully assembled and feature a:

  • BLUE Caprail
  • WHITE Dasher Face
  • YELLOW Kickplate

Its important to note that these are the same materials that make up boards found in most regulation ice arenas.

How sturdy are the D1 Hockey Rink Boards?

D1 Hockey Rink Boards are VERY sturdy.

We have several current and former NHL players that use D1 Hockey Boards in their homes. We also have a number of commercial facilities using our products. The boards will withstand heavy slapshots, but they are NOT designed to cushion a heavy body check.

Will the boards warp or flex with temperature changes?

No, the D1 Hockey Rink Boards do not warp or flex!

We use a laser cut (slotted) hole when we fasten the dasher material to the aluminum frame. This allows the dasher material to grow and shrink with thermal changes and prevents warping or puckering of the dasher material.

Do the Boards ever break?

Not yet.

We make thousands of boards each year and we have yet to have one break once installed.

How are the D1 Hockey Boards Anchored?

We have 4 anchoring options:

We recommend at least 12″ long x 3/8″ diameter stakes.

Will I need any special tools to assemble the D1 Hockey Boards?

The following tools are required to install the D1 Hockey Boards:

  • Wrench or Socket Set – to be used for tightening the Bolts and Nuts
  • Cement Drill – for Lagging the Anchor Plates
  • Drill – for Wall Mounting
  • Metal Mallet – for driving Board Supports into the ground
How long will it take to install the D1 Hockey Boards?

A general rule of thumb is that it will take 2 persons approximately 5-10 minutes per board.

What is the Warranty?

D1 Hockey Rink Boards come with a 1 year product warranty.

Disclaimer:

  • D1 Hockey Boards are not designed for checking or rough play.
  • The color of the BLUE Caprail and YELLOW Kickplates may fade when exposed to heavy sunlight.
  • Expansion and contraction is expected with extreme changes in temperature.
